Nestled in the boughs of an ancient oak, with stunning views across farm and country, a magical place to rest and rejuvenate.
Built within a 500 year old oak tree The Old Oak is a magical place. What better way to enjoy nature than nestled in among its branches?
Relax on the veranda while you take in the view. Up close a pond and fields where deer often gather in the morning light, beyond that miles of Essex countryside disappear into the distance.
Inside you share the space with the tree itself, hear it whisper, feel its heartbeat. There are two storeys, with a king size bed, sofa, dining table, a double bath, toilet and cooking facilities. Outside a veranda, perfect for idling away an afternoon. But as lovely as all of this is, the facilities are not what make this special – the tree is the star of the show.
If you want to explore you can head off on the trails that lead all the way to Epping and Ongar. Or if it’s a pint you’re after then make the 15-minute walk to Toot Hill and stop at The Green Man for a locally brewed beer. Brothers Tim and Pete can point you in the direction of the area’s attractions, but are just as happy to leave you to yourselves, to relax and enjoy the quiet of the countryside as much as they do.

Things to do
Most of our guests come to escape the noise and bustle of City life, and so typically while away their time enjoying nature in relaxed seclusion. For those feeling more active we have left at The Old Oak details of local walks, trails and cycle rides for you to experience during your time with us.
We are near to Epping Forest which has some lovely spots, and National Trust and other attractions, including the Gibberd Garden. Old fashioned Epping High Street is also worth an amble if you need to shop.
We also invite you to explore our farm, set over 200 acres of ancient farmland, including traditional hedgerows and notable trees and even a babbling brook. We ask that you do not walk across the fields though – we are still a working farm. There are details of tracks across the farm in The Old Oak.
